Government Invests Over GH¢30 Million to Boost Cultural Tourism and Creative Industries

The Vice President’s Policy Advisor, Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has declared at the 61st Oguaaman Fetu Afahye festival in Cape Coast that the government has set aside about GH¢30 million from the Tourism Development Fund to assist cultural events and boost the creative industry.

Dr. Ampofo speaking on behalf of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that the goal of this support is to turn cultural events into sources of economic growth and long-term employment opportunities for creatives.

He also highlighted that the Creative Arts Agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, is spearheading this initiative. The festival themed, “Innovate to Elevate,” was praised for aligning with the government’s broader development goals.

Dr. Ampofo also mentioned ongoing improvements to the Accra to Cape Coast Road, calling it a priority due to its poor condition. Additionally, Central Regional Minister Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere revealed plans to establish a free zone in the region to attract investment and decentralize economic growth.

The government delegation, including Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto and Cape Coast South MP George Ricketts-Hagan, contributed food, drinks, and cash to support the festival’s celebrations.
